Drug Addiction Treatment Types
Treatment programs from drug addiction have to customized based on the age, drug abused and the personality of the patient. Even if each person may need a different type of treatment, each treatment still include these basic components.
1. Counseling
A huge part of the person's recovery can be attributed to proper counseling given at the drug rehab centers. Trained counselors listen to the drug dependent's insights and asks him questions about his life during the time that he was still taking drugs. From that information, the counselor finds a way in helping the person recognize his addiction. Once the person has acknowledged that he is an addict and that he needs help, the other parts of the program wouldn't be as difficult.
2. Detoxification
This is done to eliminate the drug substances in the body. During detoxification, a person might experience withdrawal symptoms that are difficult to bear. To lessen the withdrawal effects, some medications are given to the patient under the supervision of a medical specialist. These medications will make it easier for the addict to abstain from taking drugs while in the center. Later on, the person will get used to a life without the need to take drugs.
3. Discussion on drug use
This part of the treatment program works the same way as counseling. The harmful effects of the misuse and abuse of drugs are discussed to the participants during the program. This will help them decide for themselves to stay away from drugs for good.
4. Family Counseling
The involvement of family members is important to a person's recovery. Family members should also be made to understand what a person is going through and how they could help him.
