Drug Addiction Supplemental Treatment
Many drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers now also offer alternative drug programs for those who do not want to enroll in the conventional rehab programs. These alternative programs may or may not work better than the conventional programs depending on the participant. It is important that the participant and his family studies the procedures of these alternative programs and ask for assessment to see which is the right one for the patient.
Holistic drug programs are offered in some rehab centers in the US and Canada. Apart from the counseling sessions and detoxification treatments included in the conventional programs, the following may also be included:
1. Acupuncture
This is the traditional Asian form of healing. Needles are injected into some points of the body that correspond to the area that needs to be healed. For drug addiction, it is believed that there is a specific point that has to be focused on.
2. Daily exercise
Exercise has a lot of physical benefits. When a person's body is body, it could keep his mind away from thinking about satisfying his cravings for drugs. His glands also secrete hormones to balance the body functions, helping the body eliminate the toxins and handles the withdrawal effects due to abstaining from the drugs.
3. Meditation and spiritual counseling
The participant learns to focus his energies on healing and recovery. He seeks the help of God to forgive his weaknesses and asks for another chance to renew his life. This treatment helps the person deal not only with his physical problems but also with his emotional and mental issues. This imparts in him a renewed energy and commitment to a better life.
